Jen Dahl is a talent and management/producer agent heading up The NWT Group ’s Producers+ program. She is an award–winning journalist who has extensive experience as a management executive for various top broadcast groups. Jen’s 25-year career in television producing and management makes her ideal to unite strong producers and news managers with great stations and networks.
Jen is well-connected in the industry because of her various TV roles across America. She most recently was the Executive News Director at CBS 5/3TV in Phoenix. There she supervised a staff responsible for 115 hours of local news a week. During her tenure, she bolstered the special projects unit to create compelling content across various platforms. Azfamily+ successfully launched a 5 night a week sports show, 5 podcasts, OTT specific newscasts and long-form specials including a 90-minute documentary called “Empty Seats, Full Hearts.” In the documentary, Arizona's Family captured the dedication and optimism of a west Phoenix elementary school principal as she set out to fill the void created by virtual learning. It is an inspiring story of educators working harder than ever for their students. The team was recognized by the Arizona Board of Education for their relentless commitment to exposing the challenges all educators face. Jen spent more than 10 years in various roles at KUTV in Salt Lake City, including 4 years as the News Director. Under her leadership, the team was #1 in all key newscasts and during its peak was the second highest rated CBS affiliate in all news dayparts in the country. Jen created one of the first truly “all social media shows” for a local TV station. She worked with Facebook, Banjo and Timeline Labs to create a show that focused on all things local and social in Utah. Her success in Salt Lake City landed her a job as the West Coast Group News Director for Sinclair Broadcast Group. She worked with 13 stations in the West to improve their content and innovate local news in each market. She worked with KOMO, KATU, KUTV, KSNV and 9 other General Managers and News Directors to assist in exceeding all their expectations on all platforms. Jen also worked as the Director of News and Marketing for Tribune/Local TV. She worked with 42 TV stations across the country. While there, she helped launch Fox 5 in San Diego, a joint morning show between WSFL and the Sun Sentential in Fort Lauderdale, and a national social media show for 7 Tribune markets called “Morning Dose.” Jen also created partnerships with American Idol and the LA Times. The LA Times reporter was the only reporter allowed backstage during the show’s peak. Jen coordinated with Fox stations in the group to provide custom live talkbacks on market specific information. She also created a partnership with the Food Network that created market specific content for the group’s morning shows. Jen also worked at KTVK in Phoenix during its successful tenure as America’s number 1 independent station. She was a producer on the most popular morning show “Good Morning Arizona”. She was also a consumer producer and EP of Special Projects. Jen is from Detroit. She earned 2 Bachelor’s Degrees at Michigan State University. One in Social Policy the other in Journalism. Jen has always had a passion for journalism. She started a TV station in her high school, worked full-time as a producer her junior and senior year of college, and was a capital beat reporter for 3 newspapers in Michigan her sophomore year. Jen currently resides in Phoenix with her 2 daughters. When she’s not talking news, you can find her on a good hiking trail or relaxing in the pool.
